AUTONOMOUS DRIFT
Toyota Research Institute
To capture the "first ever" test of an autonomous drift car actively avoiding obstacles on a professional racetrack, RedGate Films partnered with Echo Charlie and Toyota Research Institute at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows California. Three barriers made of Titan tubes were positioned on a winding "S" curve that required real-time adjustments by the autonomous car to detect and avoid while drifting. This two-day production included team member interviews, ground photography and expert Drone photography by JohnnyFPV. Once released to the public, this film became so popular that Mattel created a limited release Hot Wheels toy of the high-performance Toyota Supra drift-car that executed this complicated maneuver.
